Our Idaho Trip - Part 1

May 16 & 17

We left for our trip Saturday, May 16. We had an afternoon flight so we wouldn't have too crazy of a morning, but we had stayed up late cleaning and finishing packing the night before so we were all a little tired. We grabbed breakfast, drove to where we had previously arranged to park our car, and then caught the shuttle to the airport. I was surprised to see how packed the airport was! The lines were ridiculously long. We flew Southwest so we were checking the majority of our bags so we would have free hands to keep track of the kids through the airport. Thankfully Caleb had done early check-in the day before and printed our boarding passes, or else it would have been a MUCH longer process, although there was still a super long line to get through. It just moved quicker since we didn't have to get our boarding passes.

Caleb and I each took one kid to sit with us on the plane. We got to do family boarding which left us plenty of seating options. Connor wanted to sit with his daddy, so I got Evelynn. For some reason we sat on the runway for a really long time after we were approved for take off. Evelynn's attitude had started out great, but by the time we took off, she was screaming and climbing out of her seatbelt. I should probably add that she was recovering from an ear infection (and her brother was recovering from the stomach flu), and the pressure hurt even my ears, so I guess she had every right to respond in the way she did.

I'm not usually a fan of the duck lips in pictures, but I will make an exception for this extremely cute 2 year old!

Connor seemed like the easier child on the plane. He was soooo excited! I could hear him giggling over turbulence and squealing in excitement when we took off and landed. He was SO excited about being on the airplane to go see his grandparents and the rest of the family! Both he and Evelynn knew exactly who my parents were when they picked us up.

We had a couple hours of down time to unpack and calm the kids after arriving to my parents house. Then the kids got to play with their cousins, and we headed to meet up with Caleb's family and grandparents. We had plans to drive to Boise and take family pictures and do a BBQ at his brother's house.

We did a bit of walking around Boise before pictures and stopped at a little shop. Connor was thrilled about getting a ride from Aunt Cami during the walk. And we found a cute little decorative handcart that the kids were excited about taking a picture in.

In my opinion, pictures turned out well. Caleb's sister Cami was scheduled to leave on her mission so these are the last family pictures for a couple years!

The kids had a long day, so by the end of pictures Connor was overwrought. He didn't even know what he wanted anymore and the slightest look or movement or thought had him melting down. Poor kid! New places are hard. And busy days are hard. And lots of people around you is hard.
He was much happier than this pic when we got back to his uncle's place and he got to watch TV, chase dogs, and eat food.

The next day was Connor's 4th Birthday!
We didn't do much celebrating though because we had a birthday party planned for the next day, and we also had Aunt Cami's mission farewell to attend.

Macie gave her first youth talk, Deanna gave the opening prayer, Shandrie did a beautiful musical number, and of course, Cami gave a fabulous talk. Connor was having a rough time about the building being different than the one at home, so his daddy sat with him in the foyer a lot of the time. He calmed down after getting to sit on Grandma West's lap for a while, and then he fell asleep out of exhaustion. After sacrament meeting we took pictures, but I don't currently have copies of those to share. But I'll tell you what... if/when I track them down, I'll update again!
I snagged a couple pictures of Cami off Caleb's phone though to share.

After we finished up pictures, Caleb went to help get dinner ready at his mom's house, and the kids and I went back to my parent's. I had my phone set wrong so I was late coming to dinner because I thought I still had an hour! I was just relaxing outside in my parent's backyard when Caleb called me asking where I was at. It's important to have the time updated automatically by time zone I guess. Whoops!

After dinner Connor got to play with his birthday present from Grandma Anderson, play with his Aunts and Uncle, and blow out candles on some brownies.

 Next update coming soon!
It will be about Connor's birthday party.
