October

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. MontgomeryAnne of Green Gables

Ahhh, October. You have brought my the lowered heat that I've been craving.
I like you. Feel free to stay a while.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Our October started off pretty busy and hasn't seemed to stop since then!

On Thursday, October 2nd our Connor had surgery for the second time.
He had the tubes in his ears replaced again and had an adenoidectomy.

When his ENT came out after the surgery he told us that it went well, but that Connor had a perforated eardrum on his right side. For whatever reason there was a gap between the tube and the eardrum that had not healed correctly or had opened up again. Either way, it probably was not the most pleasant thing for our little guy. The doc said he went in and "roughed up" the eardrum and replaced the tube, hoping that it will heal correctly around the tube this time and not leave his ear drum hanging open like that.

Connor sure took his time waking up after the anesthesia wore off but I didn't mind one bit. I got to snuggle him while we waited.

The doctor told us some kids bounce back really quickly after surgery and other's take their time.

We were happy to learn that Connor seems to be one of those that bounces back no problem!
That very afternoon he desperately wanted to go outside to play. He brought me clothes (although it was two shirts!) and wanted to wear them. I tried to tell him and show him that he needed pants, not two shirts, but he tried to put the shirt on like pants anyways. I decided it wasn't a battle worth fighting over 10 minutes of being outside. So, we headed outside to play with a shirt tied up to keep from falling off him.

The next day Connor had October break so he had preschool off.

That weekend was General Conference.
Connor did so well playing quietly and listening to parts of Conference. He was so concerned when the streaming froze at once point. He came running, yelling "Oh no! Oh no, mommy! oh no! STUCK! Stuck, mommy." Then when it fixed itself moments later he gave a big "yay!!!!"

Sunday he was quite well behaved and was healing nicely from his surgery.
Evelynn on the other hand wasn't doing so well. She came down with a 101* fever.
We did lots of snuggling (with her and her unicorn from daddy!) to help her feel better.

Luckily her fever was gone by Tuesday. We were glad about that because we had playdate plans at the park! I decided that Evelynn and I should try to do a new hairstyle on her, since her hair is finally grown out a bit more. She wasn't particularly pleased that I wanted her to sit still that long. And I didn't even part it nicely since I wasn't sure it would even work. But we think maybe we will replicate it again in the future and actually do a nicer job with it since it stayed in pretty well!

The kids had a blast at the park with friends!
Connor loves swings and wasn't pleased that his sister was in the swing. That's where HE is supposed to be, didn't you know?!?!?

Evelynn pulled her hair out later after we got home.
But that's ok, because it last for several hours!
I did cleaning when we got home. And when we clean we turn music on a blast it through the house.
Evelynn started dancing with the chair and it was SO FUNNY!
I posted cliips of it on my Instagram, but it you haven't seen it or want to see the entire, uninterrupted thing, click here .
The video was too long so I have added a link to where you can watch it.
but it's worth watching because it is FUNNY.

On Thursday I had a class meeting I had to attend.
Evelynn thought that she really needed to do it in my place. She was SO proud of herself for wearing headphones and sitting at daddy's computer. I know it's a horribly faded, blurry picture, but we knew Caleb would love seeing it so we took a picture anyways. And now you all get to see it, too!

Thursday night Evelynn was sitting on my lap and I noticed she had red bumps on her feet. I thought to myself "oh no... she's being eaten alive by mosquitoes!" Then I noticed blister-like spots on her hands... and I though "oh my gosh, Evelynn, what did you touch?!?!?!?" Then it dawned on me....
hand-foot-and-mouth disease.....
So I checked her mouth, and yep, there were the dreaded sores.

We got her in to the doc first thing in the morning to confirm my suspicions.
We hoped Connor would escape it, but it wasn't so.
That night Connor came down with the fever Evelynn had the weekend before.

It was a pretty miserable weekend for us.
But now that fevers are gone we are hopeful that we won't see this again any time soon!

That same night, Friday the 10th, Caleb and I grabbed McDonald's for us for dinner.
We did this mainly because I had an exhausting week, and a very rough day.
I even forgot that I was supposed to pick Caleb up from work that evening. When he called asking where we were at and thought he was crazy.
Let me tell you, I felt ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE for forgetting about him.

Connor got this horrible toy (well, I think it's horrible, he loved it--mainly because of my reaction to it) that is supposed to be a mechanical robot spider thing... it is just plain creepy, ok.

Evelynn got these little glasses that she adores. How cute is she?!?!

On Saturday we picked out Halloween costumes for the kids.

On this day, I decided I must take a picture to show a certain grandma the adorable curls she has passed down to her favorite granddaughter. (just FYI, it's totally fine for us to say that because she's the only grand-daughter so far. so she's DEFINITELY the fav. )

 \
If I don't brush out her hair after it's washed then it curls a bunch.
You can probably guess it, but, I'm IN LOVE with it.
Poor me and my stick-straight hair. I always wanted a curly-haired daughter. :)

Also, I dared to take some pictures of my sick little boy. He desperately needed a haircut, don't you think? We gave him one last night. Poor kid.

Yesterday, monday the 13th, Connor decided that he wanted to get dressed and go to work with Daddy. You  might be able to guess, but he wasn't too thrilled when I told him he couldn't go to work with Daddy just because he wanted to. He was so sad!
I comforted him by asking if he wanted to take sister's bubble machine outside and play,
He decided that was an appropriate alternative.

This morning Connor got to go to Preschool for the first time in two weeks!
He was so excited! and doesn't he look so handsome with his haircut???
