Our baby turned 1 this last week. It was kind of a really bittersweet day. I've felt that with each one of my kids. That first year just passes much too quickly!
Liam is our early morning baby. He was born shortly before 2 am, and on the morning of his birthday he woke up at 1:36 crying. I went in to his room and got to snuggle and rock him back to sleep. I took my time, browsing at baby pictures and just enjoying holding him as he turned exactly one year old.
We (the kids and I) had a lat start the next morning. As you can see... they all took a nap in our bed.
We had plans to make Liam's smash cake and take pictures, but ended up having to do a quick run down to Lee's marketplace for food coloring and to get his balloons for hims smash cake photos. Little Liam had been pretty darn grumpy lately, and we think he's been teething.
While I attempted to get his cake in the oven, he hung and on my legs and cried. And then fell asleep face first on the floor. I guess it shows that I'm a 3rd time mom, because I didn't even move him. I just let him sleep while I set up for his pictures.
A week or so ago I had decided that I should do a cute little theme for Liam's birthday even though we weren't dpoing a party. (I did that for both the older kids). I decided on "Where the Wild Things Are", and came up with decor and cake design after browsing on pinterest. When I look back at it now, I keep thinking of everything I should have done differently. But... oh well. I think it still turned out pretty cute!
After Liam woke up we moved stuff around so it could be a cute little background for his pictures, although I have decided I don't have much of an eye for hanging things in trendy ways.
Liam wasn't quite sure what to do with the cake. He stared out it until I reassured him he was allowed to touch it. He was pretty hesitatnt, but accidently stuck his toes in it and cried. He warmed up to the idea of tasting the frosting after I had comforted him.
After barely 10 mins, the tears started reoccurring, and I decided we could put him out of his misery and stop the picture taking. Obviously he wasn't about to dig into the cake, so I decided we could just have it after dinner with ice cream.
Thankfully this kid loved the cake when it was actually on a plate... I guess he understood it was food if it was set before him on while in the high chair.
We also did presents, and the older siblings were THRILLED about helping to show their brother what they had picked out.
