This Monday, June 15th, my kids started their very first swimming lessons.
I decided back in April that swimming is an important skill for kids to have, especially when they are around water a lot. And since there are pools nearly everywhere in Arizona, I wanted my kids to start learning. Caleb agreed with me, and we signed our kids up.
Day 1:
They were really excited about their lessons, and although they've only had two days so far, they're loving it!
City of Mesa offers very affordable lessons and they seem to be very popular. Connor is in a class with other 3 & 4 year olds. They have been learning to float on their backs like a star, superman arms, and blowing bubbles in the water as they swim.
Evelynn's age group requires a parent in the pool as well. They're the 18 month - 3 years age group. Caleb and I decided that it would be best if we had him participate, so that if something came up with baby (although we're not anticipating his arrival until after lessons are finished), Evelynn could still have the consistency and routine of having dad with her. I believe they are loving their daddy/daughter time!
They were pretty worn out after lessons finished. I still found it amusing how kids can shiver getting out of the pool when it's over 105 degrees outside!
Day 2:
Connor hates water in his ears, so the back floating thing is not enjoyed by him. We are planning to work on that one!
Caleb says that Evelynn is doing excellent with floating on her back and on her tummy. She refuses to put her face in the water and blow bubbles though. I guess she tries to drink it instead. Silly girl!
Apparently I didn't get very many pictures of Evelynn's class yesterday, it's just harder when they're further away. And we had an excessive heat warning going on yesterday and I was having a rough time standing in the sun. Caleb had set me up a lounge chair in the shade to sit on, but I couldn't take pictures from there. I will have to do better tonight!
